Beginner's Guide
First Time at a Dispensary? Here's What to Expect
Your first dispensary visit is simple once you know the flow. Bring a valid government-issued ID proving you're 21 or older, check in at the front, browse with a budtender, and pay with cash or debit. Here's exactly what happens at Unity Rd, start to finish.
What to bring
You need one thing above all: a valid, government-issued photo ID showing you are 21 or older — a driver's license, state ID, or passport. Medical patients can also use a valid New Jersey medical cannabis card. Bring cash or a debit card; most dispensaries, Unity Rd included, can't take credit cards because of federal banking rules. There's an ATM on site if you need one.
That's the whole list. No appointment is required to walk in and browse.
Walking in: check-in
At the door, a team member checks your ID before you enter the retail floor — every visit, every time, no exceptions. This is a state requirement, so keep your ID handy.
Once you're checked in, you're on the sales floor with products on display and budtenders ready to help. Take your time; there's no pressure to decide quickly.
Talking to a budtender
A budtender is your guide. You don't need to know the lingo — just describe what you're looking for. Helpful things to mention:
- Your experience level — new, returning after a break, or seasoned.
- The format you want — flower, vape, edible, pre-roll, or tincture. Not sure? See our guide to edibles vs. vapes vs. flower.
- A product you've liked before, so they can find something with a similar profile.

Paying & heading out
Check out at the register with cash or debit. If you're a Frequent Burner Club member, your points are applied here. Products leave in a sealed, labeled exit bag.
One rule for the road: in New Jersey you can only use cannabis on private property — not in the parking lot, on the sidewalk, or in your car. Prefer to skip the trip entirely? Unity Rd offers same-day delivery from both stores.
